When approaching the outside world (everyone and everything that is not YOU — including me and this letter you’re reading) you must always keep in mind the opportunistic nature of humans.

This simple fact may seem like something your average person would be aware of, however, that is not exact the case.

Most people fail to recognise the underlying opportunistic nature that defines the majority of human behavioural patterns.

Whilst planning and executing on your long term visions, don’t forget that you will continually encounter people who are simply obstacles to be dealt with on your way.

These are desperate people, and desperate people cannot plan long term nor work with people who operate on that timeline. Opportunistic people play zero-sum games in every arena regardless of damages. And because of this are untrustworthy. Opportunistic people are more likely to betray and backstab, and may also set you up.

This defines the MAJORITY of HUMANS

So, if most humans are like this, how exactly can you deal with having to handle people like this everyday, if you’re looking to be success at it?

Surely, there must be a way, right?

Yes…

And it’s simpler than you think.

Here’s a simple 3-Step Checklist for avoiding giving people a chance to one up you:

— Don’t tell people more than they need to know

— Don’t trust ANYBODY blindly

— Don’t share your plans with ANYBODY

So, let’s briefly go over why these three step checklist works very well.

— Don’t tell people more than they need to know

Don’t tell people intimate details concerning your personal life, romantic relationships, finances, and other sensitive aspects of your life that they cannot meaningfully improve.

Unless you’re doing business that concerns that particular subject matter, do not share your personal details casually, because you attract the wrong crowd, may stir resentment amongst the people and may also make your a target — especially when things are going great for you.

— Don’t trust anybody blindly

Never trust people blindly, not even family. You’re responsible for your choices and actions, if you let anybody take the reins, that does not make them any more responsible than they were for your life before you let them take the reins. Take full autonomy and drive your life, decisions and actions with full confidence.

You must apply a rational amount of skepticism to everybody you encounter.

— Don’t share your plans with anybody

Sharing your plans with people that are not instrumental in attaining those goals or that do not play any part whatsoever is one way to sabotage yourself.

Don’t let anybody know the intimate details of your plans until you’ve actualised your goals.

Keep plans private, and make moves instead.

Sharing your plans is also one way of making yourself feel as though you’ve already accomplished your goals.

You must avoid this and act instead.

When you operate from a place of absolute autonomy you prevent the opportunistic nature of humans from making you handicapped.

By taking charge, you also make yourself master of your world and reality.
